How Planedex handles your data

The short version
Planedex has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. We don't operate a server that stores information about you, and we can't identify who's using the app. Everything the app remembers lives on your own device and is removed when the app is deleted.
What's stored on your device
The app keeps a few things locally, on your device only — never uploaded to us:
- Your logbook of spotted aircraft (plane details, time, and distance at the moment you logged it)
- Collection progress, badges, and app preferences (like your alert radius or watch list)
- Your most recent location, cached so background alerts and the widget know where to look
This stays on your device until you delete the app — there isn't currently an in-app option to erase individual entries.
What leaves your device
The only personal data that's ever transmitted is an approximate location (rounded so it isn't precise), sent to our flight-data services to answer "what's flying near this point?" It's never stored longer than a few seconds and never linked to your identity. A couple of other lookups — checking a flight's route or fetching a photo of a specific aircraft — send only information about the plane, never about you. We don't use cookies or third-party analytics or advertising services.
Permissions we ask for
- Location — to show planes near where you are. If you say no, the app falls back to a default region and still works.
- Camera — only when you open the augmented-reality sky view, so you can point at a plane and see its name. The feed is shown on screen only; nothing is recorded or saved.
- Notifications — only if you turn on alerts, and these are generated entirely on your device.
Purchases
The optional Planedex Plus subscription is handled entirely by Apple — we never see or store payment information. Purchases are protected by a parental gate so a child can't buy something by accident.
Sharing
Sharing a "catch" creates an image on your device and hands it to your phone's normal share sheet — you choose where it goes, and nothing is posted or sent to us automatically. Note that the shared image can include the sighting's location and roughly how far it was from home, so it's worth a glance before sharing publicly.
Children's privacy
Planedex is designed for children and their families, and it's built so that we never collect a child's personal information: no accounts, no persistent identifiers, no analytics, and no server-side storage of any kind. The camera never records, and purchases sit behind a parental gate.
Planned changes
A few features aren't live yet but may ship in the future: push notifications for rare-plane alerts, iCloud sync of your logbook across devices, and standard Apple App Store analytics upon broader release. None of these are active today — this policy will be updated before any of them affect your data.
Your choices
You can turn off notifications at any time in iOS Settings, and deleting the app removes everything it stored locally. Questions about your data can go to support@revvinschown.com.
